The Jacobsen Saltworks located on Netarts Bay Oregon is under-going a much needed expansion. The saltworks has been running at maximum capacity for some time now. Currently, a build-out is underway which will almost double our production capabilities.
We spoke with Operations Director Kurt Christensen about the saltworks expansion.
We know that the Saltworks has reached capacity and there is a project underway to expand it. Can you give us an overview of the project?
Our current production facility at the coast is running at maximum capacity and we want to be able to provide even more people with the wonderful flake sea salt that we make here. In order to accomplish this we need to increase the amount of brine we make from the seawater in Netarts bay.
This requires additional boil pots and a larger building to house those pots. We also need to increase the number of evaporation pans used to grow the flake sea salt as well as other support equipment.
We are in the process of putting in a new building for the brine making boil pots. We are increasing the number of pots and adding more evaporation pans. Other support equipment is also being installed to help us handle the increased salt making capacity.
How long will the expansion take?
We should be up and running by the end of July.
What are the major challenges involved with the saltworks expansion?
Continuing to make salt while we simultaneously expand the facilities and equipment is our biggest challenge.
We will not compromise quality and we want to continue to support our loyal customers with the flake sea salt they love. This requires special care and coordination as we move forward in our expansion.
How will this upgrade impact our customers?
We will have more of our wonderful high quality flake sea salt to provide to those who love it!
We want to thank Kurt for taking time out of his busy day to answer our questions. We'd also like to thank all of our customers for your continued support!
