2021 Price Change Announcement

Dear valued Customers and Partners,

On April 12th, the price of many Jacobsen products will be increasing. Kindly note that in an effort to keep costs as low as possible, the change only applies to select products.

We want to assure you that these pricing changes are rigorously vetted and we do not take lightly the effect they have on you and your customers. The last comprehensive pricing update we underwent was over two years ago, and we commit to you that this new pricing will remain in place for a minimum of one year.

Although the past year has seen unprecedented packaging supply shortages and shipping cost increases, we remain a small business focused on producing only the best quality products. The health and sustainability of our company, employees, and community continues to drive and inspire our work.

Over the course of the last two years, we developed a number of efficiencies that will both minimize the size of future price increases and further our mission to promote environmental justice. For example, in 2020 our reverse osmosis system (better known as a desalination system) saved 152,000 gallons of propane from being burned in the boiling process.  This has allowed us to keep the cost of our salt largely stable and avoid an earlier price increase on our products.

While we had to shut down salt production in March due to COVID-19, we were able to reopen and turn our boil pots back on in late July. During the closure, we made updates to the property and also began working with Farm Power, a PNW-based startup, who is recycling our wastewater into renewable energy.

Our hive program has grown substantially; we installed 75 new beehives in 2020, which meant that approximately 4,500,000 honey bees were introduced to their new homes! We also participated in the 2020 National Honey Bee Survey, supporting efforts to protect and preserve bee colonies throughout the U.S.

Lastly, we’re proud to report that even in the uncertainty of 2020, we began offering a 401k with a matching program and short-term disability benefits to our 41 employees for the first time.

We want to extend our continued and sincere gratitude for your patronage, especially through such a tumultuous year. We could not employ our team or support other Oregon small businesses without customers like you sticking by us, and for that we are exceptionally grateful.

Our team values each and every partnership, and we look forward to continuing to provide the best products and customer service possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our sales team at sales@jacobsensalt.com.

Sincerely,

The Jacobsen Salt Team
