Procurement and Inventory Associate

Jacobsen Salt Co. seeks a full-time (estimated 32-40 hour/week) Procurement and Inventory Associate to ensure that all products and services are ordered and received in a timely fashion. This position is responsible for overseeing supplier relations, obtaining quotations and negotiating prices, analyzing proposals/bids, and writing all purchase orders. The Procurement and Inventory Associate role requires a collaborative teammate with great attention to detail, as he/she/they will work interdepartmentally to ensure that all products and services are accurately accounted for. This position will be expected to evaluate the performance of existing suppliers, evaluate new sources of supply for products and services, and foster long-term, successful working relationships with all vendors.

Primary functions include: 

  • Processing and administration of purchase orders in accordance with purchasing policies and procedures
  • Assist in the selection and development of new suppliers and vendors; establish and maintain strategic supplier relationships, and ensure all purchasing is based on sound, efficient, and ethical supplier evaluation
  • Appraise quotations, proposals/bids, and contracts to make long-term decisions on supplier partnerships
  • Analyze inventory and sales order data to identify any inventory imbalances
  • Forecast and prepare for seasonal production fluctuations
  • Work interdepartmentally to troubleshoot inconsistencies or errors in the delivery, supply, invoicing, quality, or quantity of products and services
  • Proactively and effectively communicate concerns (backorders, price differences, delays, etc.) with the team to provide insight and avoid downstream issues 
  • Support the organization and completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end inventory counts and recording, including planning, coordination, and completion 
  • Contribute to warehouse receiving protocols; reconciling and directing placement of goods delivered, and accounting for these items in inventory system
  • Communicate promptly, thoroughly, constructively, and consistently with both direct supervisor and all coworkers
  • Initiate, develop, and implement cost reduction programs
  • Rigorously uphold (and contribute to continued efforts to fine tune) company, state, and federal quality control and food/health safety standards and requirements, as well as company environmental pillars 
  • Identify inefficiencies and propose improvements (such as quality assurances, capacity, ease of use, etc.) to processes, tools and equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate is:

  • A high school graduate (or has a commensurate degree or certifications) with access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Has two years experience working in inventory and supply chain, ideally around manufacturing
  • A consummate professional both in the workplace and the community; sees themselves as a Jacobsen brand ambassador and embodies our pillars of integrity and inclusivity
  • Confident and articulate in all forms of communication, including verbal and written
  • An energetic, enthusiastic and collaborative team player; confident working both independently and under direct supervision
  • Trustworthy, with a strong work ethic and high moral standards
  • Detail-oriented with keen organizational skills
  • Comfortable completing intermediate tasks on a computer, including navigating word processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with Google Suite and Quickbooks
  • **Forklift certification is a plus

Essential physical functions:

  • Fully capable of lifting 20-50 lbs (frequent) and 50-70 lbs (rarely)
  • Able to both stand and sit for several hours at a time (daily tasks may include walking or standing for long periods, but also requires dedicated computer work)

Typical weekly schedule:

  • Shift Hours: 8:30AM – 5:00PM
  • Shift Length: 8 hours
  • Monday - Friday. With potential for Variable work days. 
  • Overtime hours possible as necessitated by business operations; position requires occasional schedule flexibility
  • This full-time, non-exempt position works out of Jacobsen’s production facility in SE Portland, Oregon.

Starting wage range is $17.00-20.00/hour based on experience, education, and qualifications. Benefits include paid time off and paid company holidays, as well as eligibility for health/dental/vision benefits after 60 days and 401(k) after one year.
