Shipping + Ordering

You will be sent a confirmation email that includes your order number upon completing your purchase.

We do not accept returns, and this includes items that were purchased from another retailer. It is not safe for us to let items re-enter our warehouse and food processing facility once they have been received by a customer. If you want to return a product that was ordered from one of our partners, please reach out to that retailer. We will not be able to assist with orders that were not purchased direct.

If you have questions about refunding or replacing items from a recent order, please visit our Refund Policy page and/or reach out to hello@jacobsensalt.com

For Standard Shipping via USPS Priority Mail, please allow up to 3-5 business days processing time and 3-4 business days for delivery time.

Due to reduced shipping capacity and an increase in online orders, please note that orders may experience shipping delays.

This most likely means that something you purchased is on backorder and the rest of your order will ship out soon. Shoot us an email with your name and order number and we’ll figure it out for you!

Our shipping costs are pass-through - shipping costs are calculated by weight and we don't add any handling. This can make it difficult for single item orders, as the shipping cost for a single item can often be the same as for three items.

We do, however, offer free shipping for orders over $100.00.

Yes! We ship internationally, but be aware that shipping costs are usually much higher due to tariffs and import taxes.

Please send an email to hello@jacobsensalt.com if you have any questions about placing an international order.

A variety of our products are stocked in the Portland area at New Seasons Market, Made Here, Market of Choice, Tender Loving Empire, Zupan's Market, and World Foods.

We do not add iodine to any of our salts because we want to keep our products as pure as possible.

However, our salt naturally contains trace amounts of iodide. Iodine was originally added to salts in order to prevent people from getting iodine-deficient illnesses. Now we have a much more diverse diet and can get iodine in our diets more easily.

Our Salt

We harvest all of our Pure Flake and Kosher Sea Salt in Netarts Bay, Oregon, about 80 miles west of downtown Portland.

Our Trapani Pure Italian Fine Sea Salt is harvested by our partners in Trapani, Italy in open-air salt ponds fed by the Mediterranean Sea.

To learn more about our salts, visit our Salt Buying Guide page.

It’s all in the preparation! Making salt is an art form, much like cooking. Our flaky sea salt is a result of constant heating, filtering, and cleaning our brine. When everything is just right, flake salt crystals begin to form on the brine surface. Once they grow into their natural pyramidal structures, the crystals become too heavy and float gently to the bottom, creating an effect in our salt pans that resembles gentle snowfall.

Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to offer tours. When we do, we will certainly have information on our site. In the meantime, our About Us page will give a nice snapshot of our saltmaking process.

Our Honey

Since our beginning, we’ve worked with Pacific Northwest-based beekeepers who source, produce and sell raw honey to us from various hives throughout the region. We are committed to sourcing exceptional Pacific Northwest raw honey that is sustainably harvested, never heated, treated, blended, or ultra-filtered. Through our Raw Honey line, we’re focused on using our platform to support these regional honey producers and give our customers more access to these minimally-processed varieties.

Our raw honey varietals come from different farms throughout various PNW regions and counties, as noted on each jar. Each Jacobsen Co. Raw Honey flavor notes the predominant nectar source or crop in that given area. However, as bees are moving and pollinating up to 5 miles away from their hives, there are other nectar sources within each given region that may minorly influence the flavor notes. Please note that while each jar contains honey from a single-source/apiary, the specific source from that region/predominant nectar source may differ from jar to jar and year to year, depending on hive health. In tandem, through our Jacobsen Co. Hive Program and under our “Microlot Raw Honey” line, we annually harvest honey from our own sustainably-kept hives throughout Oregon, most notable being our award-winning Sauvie Island Raw Honey. As our Jacobsen Co. Honey line grows, we’ve been able to invest more into our Hive Program and its long-term mission of supporting the northwestern honey bee population. The program’s focus is on beekeeping and sustainable pollination practices over honey harvesting, and from 2019 to 2020, we went from keeping 7 hives to keeping 66 throughout the state of Oregon. Please note that we do not own these hives, but instead serve as stewards to the bees and partners to the local businesses and residences, whose bees and beehives we help source, install and care for.

Our Jacobsen Co. Raw Honey comes from various hives throughout the Pacific Northwest, that we source through our beekeeping partners. Our Jacobsen Co. Microlot Raw Honey comes from honey that our in-house beekeeper and team personally maintain and harvest from, all within the Pacific Northwest. These hives are managed through our Jacobsen Co. Hive Program which you can learn more about here.

Our raw honey cannot be certified as organic. We cannot control what the bees are eating, especially in places like the Oregon high desert.

Our honey is natural and it's all controlled by the bees! Color and texture can sometimes vary from batch to batch. This variation is common and happens with natural products–nothing to worry about!

Each jar of honey comes from one unique location, resulting in a unique flavor profile for each of our varietals.

Four years after acquiring Bee Local, in an effort to tie our various pantry staples under one umbrella name, we made the decision to update to Jacobsen Co. Honey in 2019.

Our Hive Program

In early spring we install honeybee hives on our hive program partner properties or provide maintenance to any existing hives. We then start by introducing a young colony called a Nucleus colony or "nuc." To best help your bees thrive, beekeepers care and maintain for your bees throughout the service year period. From late summer to early fall, you'll have the option to have your honey extracted and jarred. We are conservative with honey extraction in the first year, allowing new hives to overwinter with most if not all of the honey produced (their food source!). Bulk extraction and jarring is included in your annual maintenance fee, however, any further jarring and labeling has an additional cost per unit.

We operate in Portland and the surrounding areas. We always come out to vet the area before installing new colonies. There are a few things that make for a healthful apiary (beehive) and we want to ensure that the bees will have all the natural resources they need.

Honeybees and their pollination process are vital to our planet and our food systems. However, their ecosystems are fragile, and honeybee health and populations are in decline. We feel it is our duty to act as stewards and friends to the honeybees, giving them the best chance to survive and hopefully thrive.

Honeybees love urban and rural settings! They don't take up much space (a standard hive is about 20" long and 17" wide). Bees will forage 2-3 miles into the surrounding area. Remember, in order to access the hive, you'll need to leave some room to move around your hive for beekeeping.

Typically we install between the beginning of April and the end of May. We accept deposits for new hives at all times of the year. We recommend starting to prep to keep bees the winter prior to your install.

Please email honey@jacobsensalt.com to coordinate any and all inspections, or if you have questions, comments or concerns. Your inspections, maintenance, and extractions will all be scheduled in advance with your beekeeper.
