Jacobsen Co. Hive Program

Since 2015, we’ve set out to support the Northwest honeybee populations through sustainable beekeeping practices, partnering with local farms, restaurants and hotels to install some of our first hives. With the help of many like-minded individuals, we've rethought and grown our beekeeping operation from a few installs to what it is today – a full-service hive program headquartered in Portland.

Through the Jacobsen Co. Hive Program, we source, deliver and install bee colonies and beehives to local residences and businesses. We offer annual maintenance and honey harvesting, as well as educational classes, consulting, and beekeeping equipment. We also annually harvest honey from our own sustainably-kept hives in the Portland area, which are sold under our “Microlot Raw Honey” line.

True to the Jacobsen Salt Co. mission, our way of “keeping the bees” centers around scientific research and stewardship. We are committed to the health of the environment and to thoughtfully improving and expanding on our practices.

What We Do

01. Installation

We will assemble and deliver your hiveware and bees. As the colony grows we will install additional hive boxes as needed. Installations are available in Portland metro area.

02. Maintenance

Operating on an annual schedule, the most active maintenance period is spring through summer. We conduct hive inspections, feed as needed, and take field notes tracking colony health and productivity.

03. Harvesting

Harvest services will include honey extraction and packaging of your honey. Honeys remain raw, never heated, blended or ultra-filtered.
