Production Associate 1

The Production Associate 1 position is responsible for ensuring that Jacobsen Salt Co. (JSC) products are built, fulfilled and packaged thoroughly, efficiently and safely. Products include salts, seasonings, honeys, candies and other related pantry staples across all JSC product lines. The Production Associate 1 role is a physical role with hands-on tasks, and requires a diligent, methodical and positive teammate.
Primary functions include:
- Fill, lid, jar, pack, and label JSC products accurately and efficiently
- Understand daily and weekly production deliverables, and strive to meet all deadlines and goals
- Follow recipes to blend dry and wet ingredients (salts and spices)
- Assist with setting up and operating filling, labeling and other packaging machinery; operate all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner
- Monitor quality control throughout production builds and production packing processes
- Support and contribute to inventory control measures
- Assist with shipment palletization
- Follow company policies and procedures in order to thoroughly clean equipment and workspaces
- Comply with all company policies and procedures in order to rigorously uphold all quality control and food safety standards
- Communicate promptly, thoroughly, constructively and consistently with both direct supervisor and all team members, including reporting food safety and quality concerns to Leads and/or Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, characteristics, and core competencies required:

- Comfortable completing basic tasks on a computer, including navigating word processing, spreadsheets and email
- Able to read, understand and communicate operational and safety information in English
- Able to work in an environment where food allergens may be present
- Must have access to reliable transportation
Essential physical functions:
- Fully capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling 20-55 lbs (frequent) and 56-70 lbs (rarely/with team lift)
- Good physical dexterity required; tasks and movements requiring fine motor skills are common and frequent
- Able to climb ladders and stairs, squat, kneel, reach overhead and walk on uneven surfaces
- Able to stand for several hours (position requires walking or standing for long periods, up to 100% of the shift/two hours at a time)
- Position requires the ability to work in a variable temperature, fast-paced warehouse environment
Typical weekly schedule:
- Five consecutive days, either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday, 8am-4:30pm
- Shift Length: 8 hours
- Overtime hours possible as necessitated by business operations
- This full-time, non-exempt position works out of Jacobsen’s production facility in NE Portland, Oregon
Reports to:
- Production Leads and Senior Portland Operations Manager
Starting hourly rate for this position is $18.00/hour. Benefits include paid time off, paid company holidays and employee discount, as well as eligibility for health/dental/vision benefits after 60 days and 401(k) after one year.
