Shipping Associate

The Shipping Associate position is a full-time (est. 40 hours/week) position responsible for contributing to all shipments - including order packing and processing - from Jacobsen Salt Co.’s (JSC’s) primary fulfillment site. The Shipping Associate role is hands-on and requires an organized, detail-oriented teammate who is collaborative and accountable.
Primary functions include:
- Pick, pack and label e-commerce and wholesale product orders
- Prepare respective documentation for shipments and Will Call orders
- Assist with setting up and operating printers, packing material dispensers and other packing equipment
- Adhere to order accuracy standards and ensure high quality condition of shipments
- Understand daily and weekly fulfillment deliverables, and strive to meet all deadlines and goals
- Contribute to customer service and communication; this role will have some in-person interaction with customers
- Contribute to receiving, delivery, inventory control and production efforts as needed
- Comply with all company policies and procedures in order to rigorously uphold all quality control and food safety standards
- Communicate promptly, thoroughly, constructively and consistently with both direct supervisor and all co-workers
- Regularly and thoroughly clean equipment and workspaces
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, characteristics, and core competencies required:
- A high school graduate (or has a commensurate certifications or experience), who is at least 18 years old, with access to reliable transportation
- Previous experience working in fulfillment, either in shipping or delivery (preferably both)
- An energetic, enthusiastic and collaborative team player; comfortable working both independently and under direct supervision
- Demonstrates effective and respectful communication skills, both verbal and written
- Accountable and trustworthy, with a strong work ethic and good judgment
- A champion of Jacobsen’s ideals of integrity and inclusivity, both in the workplace and in the community
- Comfortable with basic hand tool use, machine setup and equipment operation
- Able to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Comfortable completing intermediate tasks on a computer, including navigating word processing, spreadsheets and email; experience with Shopify, ShipStation and Quickbooks is preferred
- Able to read, understand and communicate operational and safety information in English
- Able to work in an environment where food allergens may be present
Essential physical functions:
- Fully capable of lifting, pushing and pulling 20-55 lbs (frequent) and 56-250 lbs (occasionally)
- Good physical dexterity required; tasks and movements requiring fine motor skills are common and frequent
- Able to climb ladders and stairs, squat, kneel, reach overhead and walk on uneven surfaces
- Able to stand for several hours (position requires walking or standing for long periods, up to 100% of the shift/two hours at a time)
- Position requires the ability to work in a variable temperature, fast-paced warehouse environment
Typical weekly schedule:
- Monday-Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
- Shift Length: 8 hours
- Overtime hours possible as necessitated by business operations
- This full-time, non-exempt position works out of Jacobsen’s headquarters in NE Portland, Oregon

Starting hourly rate for this position is $18.00/hour. Benefits include paid time off, paid company holidays and employee discount, as well as eligibility for health/dental/vision benefits after 60 days and 401(k) after one year.
